Recent research shows that place matters in economic mobility. Strong neighborhoods and community resources can have long-term impact on educational achievements and earnings. Building off of this research, David Williams from Opportunity Insights will discuss how PHAs are collaborating with researchers to develop and evaluate effective interventions for families with young children.

During CLPHA’s Education Working Group Webinar on addressing school attendance at PHAs, representatives from the King County Housing Authority and the national nonprofit Attendance Works presented on tools for addressing chronic absenteeism, as well as strategies for fostering a culture of attendance among residents.

CLPHA’s Education Working Group hosts a webinar with Bright by Text, a texting platform that connects caregivers with tools for improving educational outcomes for children. The Council of Large Public Housing Authorities (CLPHA) hosted The Housing Is Summit in Washington, D.C., on May 3-4, 2018 with 300 partners across the housing, education, and healthcare sectors. Access video recordings of the Summit's keynote speakers (HUD Secretary Ben Carson, John Bridgeland, Matthew Morton), plenary panels (on topics that cut across sectors like anchor institutions, data collaboration, stability, and foundation investments), and select breakout sessions focused on the intersections of housing, education, and health.
